Gray Zone Warfare Rogue Ops Is Dated for Oct 22, and the New Character Rules Change How Crews Play Lamang
MADFINGER Games finally put a date on Gray Zone Warfare's next big update. Update 0.5: Rogue Ops launches on October 22, and Supporter Edition owners get in three days early with a preview starting October 19. The studio is calling it the game's move from pre-alpha to alpha, built around a new Hideout and crafting loop and a chance to go rogue as a PMC running smuggling jobs.
The hideout is the headline. For anyone who plays Lamang with a regular group, though, the bigger news landed on October 4 in the first Rogue Ops devlog. Characters, progression, and Combat Outposts are all changing, and a lot of crews will need to talk it over before they log in.
**BUT FIRST: ** There are several dozen Gray Zone Warfare units listed right now on milsimunits.com, so if you want a crew sorted before October 22, start with Milsim Units.
Four characters, and a split between PvE and PvEvP
You'll be able to run up to four characters on one account. Each one gets locked to a game mode, either PvE or PvEvP, and to a faction. You can't have two characters with the same mode and faction at the same time, and you can only delete one character a week. MADFINGER says those limits are there to head off exploits.
Progression gets split too. Today your progress carries between PvE and PvEvP servers. In 0.5, each mode tracks it separately. MADFINGER's pitch is that this gives players "more flexibility to play with friends across different factions while reinforcing gear fear, discouraging reckless bloodlust, and supporting healthier in-game economies in both modes."
That first part is a big deal for groups. Until now, one faction per player meant your squad either agreed on a faction or split up. Now someone can keep a main with the unit and spin up a second character on another faction to play with a different group of friends. It isn't free, though. As ConsolePCGaming put it, "changing a character's setup will not be a quick reset."
The first soft wipe
This is also the first time Gray Zone Warfare has done a partial wipe instead of a full one. You keep your Update 0.4 rank, completed tasks, unlocked apparel, vendor levels, and statistics. Your locker and your money get wiped.

There's a catch. The first time you enter either the Supporter Preview or the full release, you have to pick which mode, PvE or PvEvP, gets your existing progression. MADFINGER says that choice is irreversible, and your faction stays the same. If your unit plays both modes, it's worth figuring out who's carrying their rank into which mode before October 19, so you don't end up with half the roster leveled on the wrong side of the split.
Fewer outpost brawls, smarter AI
Combat Outposts are getting reworked to spread PvP out across the map. The largest COPs can no longer be captured and become regular world locations for now. The remaining outposts are being moved around the island so they're spread more evenly, and Vulture moves off the COPs onto the normal vendor screen. If your PvEvP group's nights mostly came down to holding one big outpost, expect the fighting to look different.
The AI is getting tougher as well. Every NPC can bandage itself, some factions will throw grenades, and Tier 3 and the new Tier 4 locations get harder enemies. Healing now works per body part instead of per wound, blood bags and bottles are measured by volume, and stims can't be bought from vendors anymore. One small fix teams will notice right away: the time limit on proximity voice chat is gone.
According to GamesBeat, the update also adds three major locations: the Radio Observatory, the Asylum, and the Military Research Site. MADFINGER spokesperson Tomáš Nawar called the date "a commitment to delivering the best possible experience to our dedicated community."

What players are saying
On the Steam announcement thread, the soft wipe is going over well. "Massive W on not taking the vendor rep. Can't explain that enough," one player wrote. Another admitted the date caught them off guard: "Three weeks til release. Whoa! I was expecting mid November for it, to be honest. And I love having soft wipes now."
There are questions, too. Players are asking whether brand-new characters start from zero vendor reputation, which the devlog doesn't spell out. Others want to know whether gear on the character itself gets wiped too, or whether fully kitted characters with backpacks full of cash will walk into 0.5 untouched. Then there's the hideout's darker side, since the Laboratory can make narcotics for Vulture's black market. One player summed it up: "So instead of repeating tasks from the last versions, I can get straight to dealing heroin to fund those expensive M995s."
Two more devlogs are coming before launch. Next week's covers new weapons, locations, and items. The one after that covers the Hideout, crafting, optimization, and anti-cheat. A Q&A stream will kick off the Supporter Preview. If you're thinking about upgrading to Supporter Edition for early access, Gray Zone Warfare is 33% off on Steam until October 8 at 12 PM CT.
