Hell Let Loose: Vietnam Update 1.5 went live on September 16, 2026 — the first major content drop since launch. Team17 and Expression Games shipped an officially licensed Bell UH-1 Iroquois “Huey,” the M14 and Type 56 SKS, a first weapon-balancing pass, and 100+ fixes and quality-of-life changes across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Official changelog: Update 1.5 | Full Changelog.
“OUT NOW” announcement: Team17 / Expression via DLH.
In the launch note, Team17 leaned hard on the Bell partnership:
“Authenticity has always been incredibly important to Hell Let Loose… working directly with Bell on the Bell UH-1 Iroquois, where players can experience a more accurate representation of this legendary aircraft as it takes to the skies over Vietnam.”
— Team17, quoted in the Sep 16 OUT NOW release
The same release also recycles PCGamesN’s earlier line that the game can feel “beautifully brutal” — useful context for why a licensed Huey and two highly requested rifles matter as the first post-launch beat.
What’s in Update 1.5
Bell UH-1 Iroquois “Huey”
- Officially licensed Huey replaces the previous fictional helicopter model
- New pilot/co-pilot HUD icons for supply drops, spawning, auto levelling, cockpit radio, and repairs/resupply
- M60 ammo: M61 AP can damage boats and tunnels; capacity 400 → 500; more tracers
- Cockpit alarm when hull health is low
- On destroy, occupants no longer die instantly — the airframe crashes first, with updated VFX
- Main rotors no longer destroy structures; tail rotor can damage infantry
- Co-pilot radio: era music on/off; audible inside the Huey and to nearby players of either faction (muteable in Audio Settings)
New weapons
| Weapon | Side | Details |
|---|---|---|
| M14 | US | Semi-auto, 7.62×51, 20-round mag; default 4 mags, up to 8 via loadout. Level 3: Squad Leader, Rifleman, Specialist, Engineer |
| Type 56 SKS | NVA | Semi-auto, 7.62×39, 10-round internal mag + charger clips; default 6 clips, up to 12. Same roles at level 3 |
Balancing and notable fixes
- M16 default mags 4 → 6; Barracks max raised to 10 (Type 56 AK max remains 7)
- Garrisons blocked within 15 m of an enemy (aligned with Outposts/Tunnels)
- Deployables can no longer be placed underwater
- Tac-map icons for downed players; Scoreboard/Stats from the KIA screen
- Conquest: destroying the NVA T-54 now matches US M48 Morale loss
- Free US Pilot uniform for logins during Update 1.5 (later becomes purchasable)
Changelog detail is mirrored in full by community note sites such as POWERBITS. Roadmap coverage continues to point at later drops (weapons + a Khe Sanh map in Update 2.0 territory) — those are upcoming, not part of 1.5.
What press is saying
DualShockers framed 1.5 as both content and polish: the Huey swap, the two rifles, and “over 100 fixes… which will hopefully be the layer of polish players have been hoping for,” while noting reviews have stayed mixed on technical issues. Their write-up also stresses the authenticity push — Team17/Expression’s work with Royal Armouries on weapons capture since 2024, extended here into a licensed airframe.
German outlet PlayFront called the Bell license and radio “exactly the scenario the community has been demanding since release,” then immediately flagged the tactical tradeoff:
“…if the music betrays the helicopter to the enemy squad hundreds of meters away in the thick undergrowth, the radio quickly turns from a gimmick into a death sentence in intense group combat.”
— PlayFront, Sep 16, 2026
That’s the cleanest day-of takeaway beyond the patch notes: the Huey looks and sounds more “Vietnam,” and the broadcast radio is a real gameplay choice, not just flavor.
Community chatter (context)
Helicopter feel has been a loud topic on r/HellLetLooseVietnam since before 1.5. Pre-update threads complained about clunky controls and fragility — one May post titled “Huey’s feel so incredibly bad” compared handling to “a Roblox plane,” with commenters piling on about how easy birds were to knock down. Separate beta write-ups were more mixed: some players said Hueys felt “surprisingly very smooth” after practice, while still calling out how fast small-arms fire could end a flight (beta thoughts thread).
Others debated the role of transport helis more than the model — whether they’re underused as infantry movers versus door-gunner toys (transport helicopter rework discussion).
Update 1.5 doesn’t pretend to rewrite every complaint, but it does hit the authenticity ask head-on (licensed Huey + radio) and ships a long fix list DualShockers and the official notes both put north of 100 items. Expect the subreddit argument to shift from “placeholder bird” to “how loud is that radio on a hot LZ.”
On DualShockers’ own 1.5 comments, the first community reply was short and on-brand: “The Huey helicopter!” as the most exciting piece of the patch (article comments).
