Paid to Play: Is Getting Paid to Game Finally Real?
Getting paid to game isn't just a daydream for Arma 3 players anymore. Here's what one community's new paid roles look like and what it really takes.
Nov 1, 2026

Every gamer has had the thought. You've just logged off after a three-hour op, and you realize you'd happily do that every night of the week.
Imagine getting paid for this.
For most Arma 3 players, that thought never goes any further. Milsim has always run on passion. The people who keep units going put in serious hours for nothing. Mission makers spend whole weekends in the editor, leaders run training on weeknights, tech volunteers keep servers and mod packs alive, and virtual pilots practice landings until they can do them in their sleep.
Lately, though, the dream has been looking a bit less far-fetched.
The dream, slowly becoming real
In Arma 3 milsim, the skills you build are real: leadership, communication, planning, technical problem-solving and creativity. More and more, communities and audiences are recognising that those skills are worth paying for.
The latest example: one community, Brothers In Arms (BiA), has announced paid positions for 2027. The roles pay roughly €110 to €300 a month across leadership, staff and specialist positions. On top of that, there are per-mission and per-stream rewards for content roles. Full details are in the application.
Paid unit roles are still rare, so this isn't something you'll find everywhere. It does show where things could be heading: running a unit well is real work, and some communities are starting to treat it that way.
The reality check: it's a commitment
Getting paid to game sounds like the easiest job in the world. It isn't. The moment money is involved, gaming stops being something you do when you feel like it and becomes something people are counting on you for.
Paid milsim roles generally come with expectations around attendance, training and performance, and pay usually depends on meeting them. If you miss ops, skip training or don't deliver, you shouldn't expect to keep getting paid.
Before you chase a paid role, ask yourself:
- Can I reliably make the unit's operation and training schedule, week after week?
- Do I already have experience in this kind of role, or am I willing to put in the work to get it?
- Would I do this for free anyway?
The last question matters most. The players who end up paid to game are almost always the ones who were already putting in the hours because they loved it. The money recognises that commitment. It doesn't replace it.
Ready to try?
If you think you've got what it takes, the BiA 2027 application is open now. You can apply for more than one position, and the window runs 14 days from October 31, 2026, so it closes around November 14, 2026. All applications will be reviewed by BIA Management. Please provide thoughtful, honest and detailed answers.

Find your unit on MilSim Units
Paid or volunteer, everything starts with finding the right unit, one where you'll improve, get noticed and actually enjoy showing up. Most of the best milsim experiences still happen in volunteer units full of people who just love the game.
Whatever you're after, whether that's a hardcore Arma 3 realism unit or a relaxed weekend group, MilSim Units can help you find it. Units are ranked by community votes, so you'll see which groups players rate highest, not just the ones with the best marketing.
