WARDOGS Season 3 Moves Up to November 12, and Seasons Go to Three Months

Bulkhead cut WARDOGS Season 2 short. Season 3 is set for Nov 12 with Limited Mode servers, and the Hot Zone podcast lays out three-month seasons ahead.

Season 2 of WARDOGS was supposed to be the clean slate. Instead, it's going to be the shortest season the game has had.

Bulkhead's studio lead Joe Brammer says Season 3 now starts on Thursday, November 12. That's four weeks to the day after Season 2 went live on October 15, and a good two to four weeks earlier than the six-to-eight-week run the studio originally planned. The date didn't come from a Steam announcement or a big trailer. Brammer dropped it on October 23 in a developer reply under a negative Steam review, writing that "Season 3 has been brought forward to November 12th to give everyone a proper fresh start," according to WARDOGS Hub. It took a couple of days for anyone to notice, until Shacknews and PCGamesN picked it up on October 25.

So it's not on the official Steam news page yet, and the studio hasn't posted it from the @WARDOGS account either. But it lines up neatly with what the team said a day later on its brand-new podcast.

Why Season 2 is getting cut short

If you missed the launch-week drama, the short version is that Season 2 wiped everyone's progress and then handed it back too fast. Bulkhead deliberately sped up progression for the new season, and within days some players were already rolling around in Tier 4 armour and main battle tanks.

The studio owned that pretty quickly. In an October 17 post on X, the team wrote that "it was the wrong call" and that "the wipe never really landed." They ruled out a knee-jerk reset that weekend because it would be unfair to people enjoying the climb, and said they'd look at "significantly bringing forward Season 3" instead. November 12 is what that looks like in practice.

What the devs said on The Hot Zone

On October 24, Bulkhead put out the first episode of The Hot Zone, an official WARDOGS podcast. It runs a little over an hour, with Brammer joined by lead designer Pete, technical designer Mark and creative director Tim. The episode opens with a reminder that the team is small and has shipped one of the biggest early access shooters of the year, so "what we lack in polish right now, we want to make up for with communication and context."

And they did bring numbers. According to recaps from BoostPirate and WARDOGS Patch Notes, the team walked through what actually went sideways:

  • The top 25% of players leveled 2.4 times faster than they did in Season 1.
  • The share of players driving vehicles jumped from 9% to 44% on day one, which the team called unsustainable.
  • Fewer than 400 players used the driver exploit, but tanks still showed up in 30 to 40% of matches.
  • A small XP bonus for one faction pushed blue's win rate to around 67% before it was pulled about ten hours in.

The bigger news for anyone deciding whether to stick with the game is the plan after Season 3. The team said monthly seasons aren't something it can keep up with, and that Season 2 got overloaded because they were afraid of running out of content. Going forward, seasons should last roughly three months with a smaller update in the middle. Bulkhead hasn't published an exact length for Season 3 itself.

Further out, the team called the current progression system a stopgap. The real one is built around Intel, a seasonal resource you earn at a daily pace that you can bank if you miss days and spend on the specific gear you want. The team's line on timing was that it "looks like Q2 next year," per WARDOGS Hub. Persistent skill trees are planned after that, with no date.

Limited Mode is the part to watch

The other thing Brammer tied to Season 3 is Limited Mode servers, meaning no power weapons and no vehicles. On the podcast the team described it as a way to bring back the low-to-mid game that a lot of players say they miss, and the infrared binoculars that keep coming up in complaints won't be in it either way.

That matters a lot if you're new or coming back. One of the loudest complaints this month has been that matches get decided by whoever has put in the most hours, not who plays better. A server where everyone's stuck with basic kit is the most direct answer Bulkhead has offered so far. We still don't know if Limited Mode will be ready on November 12 or show up later in the season.

What resets, and what it means for you

Bulkhead hasn't posted written wipe rules for Season 3 yet. If it works like the Season 2 wipe, cash and XP progression reset, leftover cash gets converted to Gold Bars, and Gold Bars and cosmetics stay on your account.

That leaves about two weeks of Season 2. If you've been eyeing a role you never touched, now's a good time to mess around with it, because anything you unlock is going away soon anyway. If you've bounced off WARDOGS because of tanks everywhere, November 12 looks like the cleanest jump-in point the game has offered. Everyone starts from zero, and the new three-month cadence means it should stick for a while.

The studio has promised a "Season 2 Reflection & Season 3 Preview" vlog this week, which should make the date official and fill in the gaps on wipe rules and Limited Mode. We'll update this when it lands.

If you want a squad ready to go on day one of Season 3, the WARDOGS units on Milsim Units are a good place to start looking.
