WARDOGS Update 0.1.2: The Economy Patch That Also Rebuilds Deploy

Bulkhead dropped Update 0.1.2 after a one-hour maintenance window on September 30 (08:00 UTC). It is not a content drop. No new map, no new kit tree. It is the patch that tries to stop Season 1 Cash and XP from leaking through the seams — and tells anyone still farming those seams that the soft gloves are off.

VICE and PCGamesN both framed it the same way: a minor build with major integrity language. If you run a WARDOGS group, that mix matters more than another teaser trailer.

On milsimunits.com, WARDOGS currently sits at 38 listed units inside a directory of 1,876 across 30 games. That's enough organized squads that a fairer economy and a clearer server browser matter to people who queue together on purpose, not just solo pub grinders.

What they actually closed

The Steam notes name the target plainly: “egregious cash & XP exploits” that showed up after Early Access launch. Four reward paths got tightened.

Revive validity checks are now fully server-authoritative, so map-wide revive abuse is harder to pull. Vehicle fly-through rewards are capped. Destroying buildables pays based on construction progress — a freshly planted schematic no longer pays like a finished fort. Depositing pallets into a FOB outside the zone awards reduced rewards instead of the full in-zone payout.

None of that is flashy. All of it hits the same nerve: Cash and XP are supposed to come from playing the Control Zone, not from edge-case reward logic.

“That leniency is now over”

Bulkhead did not bury the enforcement note. The studio says anyone caught abusing Cash and XP exploits — or real-money trading — has already had cash and progression reset and risks a permanent ban. The early Season 01 grace period for first-time offenders is done.

PCGamesN quoted the line that will get screenshotted in every Discord: “That leniency is now over. We have zero tolerance for economy abuse and players now risk being permanently banned without warning if caught abusing repeatable unintended exploits.”

So if someone in your group has been treating unintended farms like a side hustle, this is not a patch-note shrug. It is a policy change with a permanent-ban stick attached.

Deploy finally points at Infantry and Low-Level

The other half of 0.1.2 is discoverability. Hit Deploy and you now choose Official, Community, Infantry Mode, or Low-Level servers. Bulkhead calls it “the first step intended to help signpost players toward servers running these modifiers” — a direct attempt to get traffic onto Infantry Mode and Low-Level community boxes that used to hide in a flat browser.

Advanced Filters are back on the Official list. Long server names hover-expand instead of truncating into mush. After Join you see connecting status, then queue position. Anonymous mode hides the server name on the loading screen and in the pause menu unless you reveal it. Gamepad works on the Deploy screen now.

For community hosts, the admin side got real tools too: daily restart scheduling in UTC, RCON AllowedHosts restrictions, capped RCON message and broadcast lengths, Standard response detail by default instead of Full, and config responses that no longer dump server internals. ServerImageURL is validated on config load. None of it is glamorous, but it makes running a community server a lot less fragile.

Crash fix and the small combat cleanups

Windows 11 players who hit the WD-L020 crash after Microsoft’s KB5124010 update get the official fix in this build. That alone will put a chunk of the player base back in the lobby without community workarounds.

Smaller combat notes also shipped: throwables (grenades, smoke, C4) no longer work from enclosed vehicle seats; the adaptive crosshair hides correctly on ADS; buildable crit spots stop respawning in the same awkward corner and now favor a reachable hit; Havoc no longer takes inflated damage from 20mm and 30mm cannon fire. Stability and security hotfixes round it out.

Season 02 is still October 15, and it still wipes

This patch is not Season 02. The 0.1.2 notes close by calling Season 02 “a larger content update, with new map conditions, equipment, balance reworks and additional features,” and promise more detail next week. The date is still October 15, per Bulkhead’s Season 02 teaser. Until then, 0.1.2 is the cleanup pass on a Season 1 that is still live.

The reset at the end of that season isn’t a surprise move. Bulkhead spelled out the rule well before Season 02 had a date, and VICE’s rundown of what the studio has stated is simple: leftover Cash converts automatically into Gold Bars, levels and XP progression reset, and Gold Bars plus the cosmetics bought with them stay on your account. The conversion rate and the new unlock order haven’t been published yet.

One reset has already landed, just not on everyone. The 0.1.2 notes say anyone caught abusing Cash and XP exploits, or real-money trading, “has had their cash and progression reset.” That is enforcement, not the seasonal wipe, and Bulkhead hasn’t connected the two.

Why Bulkhead says the wipe stays

CEO Joe Brammer has been defending the reset on X for weeks, mostly in replies. His pitch is that the wipe is the game, not a penalty. “It’s not ‘starting over’ in our minds, it’s kind of what the game is,” he wrote on September 18, adding that each season changes things up with new weapons and vehicles and may pull some content “just to allow a bit of diversity each season.”

On September 12 he told a player that each season will “change the order of progression” and rotate out existing weapons and vehicles, with more of the game saved to your account as the meta layer gets built. Asked whether community servers could run different wipe schedules, his answer was short: “No, it’s the game.”

When a self-described working dad who plays recon told him “1 month for the first wipe is too soon,” Brammer replied that “a reset brings you back to level playing field,” that “Future seasons will be longer,” and that “your skills will persist.”

On September 29 he tied the short first season straight to balance. Answering a player who preferred the early game to the late game’s “Level 4 armored chadded up Juggernauts” and signed off with “Can’t wait for the wipe,” Brammer wrote: “Almost as if the devs knew this and kept the season short while we balance it and it was met with negativity but maybe there’s a bigger plan.” In the same post he said “we won’t even get it right season 2,” and named the real failure as “community servers and us not hosting official infantry and level cap servers.” GamesRadar picked it up the same day.

That is the one line that runs back to this patch. The new Deploy menu in 0.1.2 is Bulkhead’s stated first step toward steering players onto Infantry Mode and Low-Level servers, the exact gap Brammer called out the day before it shipped.

He is also lowering expectations. “I bet you season 2 is a disappointment because there are so many things to fix, improve, balance etc,” he told another player that same day.

How the wipe is landing

Split, and loud on both sides. The Steam discussion board has a run of wipe threads from the past week, and they read like two player bases arguing past each other.

The pushback comes mostly from people with limited hours. The Steam discussion poster behind “Wardogs Season 2 Wipe Will Push Casual Players Away” says they have around 40 hours in and wrote, “If I have to start all over again in Season 2, I’m done with Wardogs.” Another, in “Progression and Progress Wipe Concerns,” plays three to five hours an evening and expects to “just barely earn the unlock” they’re chasing before October 15. A thread posted October 1, “Can’t get past the idea of wipes,” calls it “theft of my time and effort.”

A lot of the critics draw the same line: wipe the Cash, leave the XP. One poster in a September 10 thread pitched re-buying unlocks each season as the middle ground, calling an XP re-grind “an absolute chore.”

The other side is just as vocal, and some of them are casuals too. One poster in the casual-players thread wrote “as a casual, i cant wait for wipe day,” because they can only buy a tier 2 helmet while “everyone else has tier 4.” Another backed the wipe because “too many have cheater or exploited bugs,” which drew the obvious reply that cheaters and heavy grinders will just pull ahead again.

Nobody has published numbers on how many players sit on each side, and forum threads skew toward people with something to get off their chest. The fight is about XP and unlocks, not Cash, and Brammer has given no sign the wipe itself is negotiable. What could still shift the mood is how Season 02 reshuffles the unlock order, and Bulkhead says more Season 02 information drops next week.
